The families of young people missing after a deadly blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's alpine town are confronting an excruciating wait for confirmed information and pleading for information about their loved ones publicly.

The blaze devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Circulated images depict the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.

Officials have stated that it could take an extended period to identify the victims of the disaster, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another 119.
