Jennifer Lawrence States Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Nation Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate suitable to voice opinions against the Trump presidency, concerned it could intensify polarizing arguments and deepen rifts across the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence
During a discussion, she reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on electoral choices.”
She continued, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
Lawrence has spoken candidly about supporting Republican and Democratic contenders over the years. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the left-leaning politics and stating she recognized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was undermining her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “because I think she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard abortion access.”
Industry Position
The star was joined by most of Hollywood in her rejection of Donald Trump as a returning figure, but the limited influence celebrities have over the public choices was emphasized by the outcome.
“Another four years feels different,” commented Lawrence about his administration. “Because he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for four years. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
Current Projects
The actor is discussing Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a young mom who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in the countryside. Speaking at a media event for the movie in Venice, Lawrence commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
Lawrence added by stating that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discourse of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be accepted to the kids now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence sought to redirect anger about the conflict to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on those accountable,” she advised, seen by observers as a nod to the then-recent pledge endorsed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to avoid specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
The actor, who received an Academy Award aged 22 for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in her latest project. While Ramsay has rejected the plot being seen as one of post-birth struggles and mental illness, the actress shared that she did relate to parts of her character’s journey after the delivery of her new baby, not long after shooting ended.
“There was concern about my child,” she commented, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a medication called the prescription and I used it for a short period and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also mentioned of the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.
“It feels nice,” she commented, about having to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
