A trio of officers perished and more than a dozen people sustained injuries in a seemingly intentional blast caused by gas at a rural property in northern Italy.

How It Happened

The blast took place as police and firefighters approached the residence close to the city of Verona to enforce an removal notice for three siblings who were older adults.

All three victims who died served in the Carabinieri military police.

Investigation Developments

A man and a woman were arrested at the site and one more individual who escaped subsequent to the explosion was apprehended shortly later. Each of them have been taken to hospital.

“We all knew the situation was dire,” local residents stated to Italian media, mentioning that the three had in the past stated to “detonate the property” rather than be evicted.
