A Ton of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season

The Yuletide season present a plethora of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on delicious food, and employing deep breathing to avoid arguing with family members. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy developments surfaced over the break, and if you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)

Without a doubt the most shocking announcement, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter further production. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series showed it still retained the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not been disclosed yet.
